SHOP IN WINNIPEG
Exploring Winnipeg’s shopping scene is a fantastic way to experience the diversity of the city. Locally owned and operated boutiques are as unique as the neighbourhoods they call home, from trendy Osborne Village to upscale Academy Road. We have listed the top five Winnipeg shopping districts and suggested stores that will let you get the most out of your excursion.
Osborne Village
Osborne Village is one of the most vibrant ’hoods in Winnipeg, thanks to the shopping available at trend-setting boutiques, specialty stores and restaurants that cater to cool people of all ages. The three-block strip is a hotbed for local businesses, where legendary Winnipeg shops exist alongside promising newcomers. Don’t miss:
Corydon-Lilac
Upscale boutiques and opulent galleries speckle the converging Lilac and Corydon strips. Originally Winnipeg’s Little Italy, this district has become diversified over recent years, and is now home to more sushi than manicotti.
Academy Road
One of Winnipeg’s most glamorous promenades, Academy Road hosts an array of high-end fashion boutiques and extraordinary décor and gift stores. The old road, built-in 1903, was originally named for St. Mary’s Academy Catholic School for girls, which still anchors the east end of the strip today.
The Forks
Once a meeting place for fur traders, today, The Forks—at the intersection of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers—is a top draw for travellers to Winnipeg. Buzzing with year-round events, the adjacent Forks Market is home to great restaurants and tempting shops. We recommend the cinnamon bun from Tall Grass Prairie Bread Co. and Deli as a great way to fuel up before hitting the shops.
Exchange District
The Exchange District has an eclectic vibe with its historic buildings that house quaint boutiques and eateries. Once filled with horse-drawn carriages, this well-aged area is bursting with hidden stories, an artistic community and many shopping choices—particularly along the main drag of McDermot Avenue.
