Counselling

RRC offers a wide range of different counselling services that are accessible to its students. Counselling services are provided to help students work through personal and business struggles to get through college with as much ease as possible. These services are offered in-person, over the phone, and through video conferencing.

Through the schools counselling service you can request a wellness check to talk about how you are faring and what can be done to help you if help is needed. Services available are also BEACON digital therapy and Same Day Crisis service. BEACON is a smartphone and tablet application that provides cognitive behavioural therapy for all kinds of mental illnesses, the app is provided by verified health professionals.

What Specific Issues Can Counselling Help Me?

The school gives students access to plenty of different counselling topics, segmented into the issues of ‘Personal’ and ‘Career’ counselling. Personal counselling is centred around a person’s personal needs and resolutions. Examples of personal issues could be mental health, problems at home, personal stress management… and many more.

In addition to the above-provided topics, RRC also has a special subset for Urgent/Crisis Situations. If your situation falls into one of the categories listed under the crisis situation list (i.e. Suicidal thoughts, recent assault or abuse, witness or experience of a traumatic event, and etc..), you will most likely be able to be seen for an in-person appointment that same day.

Career Counselling services are to be used at the discretion of current and future students of RRC. Deciding which path to take in life is a stress-inducing choice. Some people already have their whole lives planned out ahead of them; for others, making those tough decisions isn’t so easy. Career counselling services serve the purpose of helping to guide students in their career decision-making processes. While they don’t lay out a perfect plan for students, they encourage students to realize what attributes they have (interests, skills, finances, future vision) and then use that knowledge to decide which career path will be best for them.

Counselling services can be very useful to students. In times of stress, making sure you have a rational shoulder to lean on is one of the best things you can do for yourself to remain steady, grounded, and focused. Utilizing the professional services offered by the college is a practical and easy way to maintain focus and make sure you’re on the right path to your goals. Students should always consider turning towards counselling services for any non-academic challenges they may be facing.
