about the
History
Industrial Vocational Education Centre, founded in the mid-1930s, provides programmes in carpentry, sheet metal working, machining, needle trade, and a variety of other vocational courses. Its first site was located at 331 Henry Avenue, and the institution's only goal was to teach unskilled and unemployed youths in crafts. The federal Department of Labor began supporting the centre in 1938, resulting in new courses and increased enrolment.
Due to rising enrollment rates and demand for technical and vocational training, the institution needed more space, so it was relocated to the newly vacant Ford Motor Company assembly factory at 1181 Portage Avenue. A second campus was built at King Edward Street and Notre Dame Avenue a few years later. The facility was renamed the Manitoba Institute of Technology.

In October 1998, it became the Red River College of Applied Arts, Science, and Technology. Finally, on October 5th, 2021, it was renamed Red River College Polytechnic that we know today.
